Emilia Lemaire (born 1997 in Detmold, Germany) currently lives and works in a close by village.
Today, she rarely uses her German surname and instead goes by the name Lemaire.
At the age of 16, she was diagnosed with the rare liver disease primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), a diagnosis that would go on to shape the rest of her life.
To distract herself from the seriousness of her condition, Emilia began drawing intensively and discovered her passion for art.
In 2017, she started training as a media designer but had to interrupt her studies between 2018 and 2019 due to her illness. She resumed the program in 2019.
During this time, her health continued to deteriorate, eventually leading to liver failure. In April 2023, she received a liver transplant.
Throughout these years, Emilia Lemaire continued to develop her painting practice. Since 2021, she has been working with oil paints From the beginning, she mixed her own colours using pigments, and later developed her own binder and painting mediums to further refine the application and effect of the colours.

Since 2024, she has been publishing her work under her name Emilia Lemaire.
